Welcome to Kilgore Veterinary Associates, Inc.Small animal office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 and from 1:30 to 6 pm. You may drop off animals as early as 7:30 or during the lunch hour for the doctors to treat when they arrive. We do not go on an appointment basis although appointments are required for surgeries and for groomings (not for routine bathing and dipping.) We require vaccines to be current or to be updated while hospitalized unless the  doctor deems that the animal is too ill. The same is true for parasite infestation.

Large animals are only seen by appointment.

Welcome to Kilgore Veterinary Associates, Inc.

Emergency SignDear Valued Clients,

For nearly twenty years, Dr. Rob Thoni and his associate veterinarians have been taking after-hours emergency calls. And as the hunt for   qualified veterinarians continues, more and more new graduates are attracted to the larger cities where after hours and weekend calls are handled by 24-hour emergency clinics, rather than accepting employment in smaller towns where they are expected to be available beyond a 10-hour work day.

After long and careful thought, we at Kilgore Veterinary Associates have decided to support the newly formed East Texas Emergency Clinic not only financially but also by referring all small animals after hours calls to them.

East Texas Emergency ClinicLocated at 812 Gilmer Road in Longview (formerly Dr. ZimickiÆs clinic and more recently, Dr. PittmanÆs clinic East Texas Animal Hospital) the clinic will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday morning. The clinic will be staffed by a veterinarian and veterinary technician at all times.

We see many advantages to using the emergency clinic besides the obvious ones to ourselves of having some time off and  being able to recruit new  veterinary graduates:

Pet owners will no longer have to call an answering service and wait for us to return their call. When they feel they have an emergency, all they have to do is drive their pet to the clinic, which is approximately a twenty- minute drive.

Pets will now be monitored  around the clock by a veterinarian. In years past we have either had to take small animals home with us to watch over them at night, or else set the alarm to go to the clinic to check on large dogs.  The emergency clinic operation is definitely superior to both.

Successful emergency clinics have existed for years in Texas cities most recently Tyler which has had one for the past ten years.  The emergency veterinary clinic will be a permanent change in veterinary medicine, just as emergency rooms have become indispensable in human medicine.  The number of veterinary clinics accepting any after hours calls has been diminishing every year and soon will disappear completely. WeÆve made every effort to keep our doors open for emergencies until now, when we see this as the best way to provide after hours care for the animals who need it.

We hope you understand our decision and will support us by using the new emergency clinic. In exchange, we will be able to continue to offer you the best medicine and surgery possible during our regular office hours.
